Every brand has a beginning. Kithkins, however, didn't begin with pet sculptures.
Before Kithkins was founded, we specialised in high-precision digital sculpture, creating everything from portrait sculptures and architectural models to commercial display pieces. Whatever we designed, we were driven by one simple belief: every detail matters.
Then one day, a long-standing client got in touch. He sent us several photographs from his phone. They were of Duke, his Border Collie and loyal companion of seventeen years.
He told us we were the fifth company he had approached.
Before finding us, he had already commissioned several sculptures of Duke. One captured the proportions perfectly but somehow lacked the warmth in his eyes. Another matched his colouring, yet the distinctive tuft of white fur on his chest – the one that always lifted in the breeze – had been made perfectly neat. Others were beautifully crafted, but to him they simply looked like another Border Collie.
He quietly said: "They're all very good... but none of them is Duke."
As we talked, we came to understand their story.
Duke had been by his side through some of life's most important moments. He was there when he graduated from university, when he started his first business, when he moved home three times, when he got married, and when he welcomed his two children into the world.
During the hardest periods of his life, Duke would simply lie quietly beside his feet. Every evening, whatever the weather, he would sit patiently by the front door, waiting for him to come home.
Seventeen years passed. The house changed. The car changed. The photographs multiplied. But the familiar figure waiting at the door was gone.
He wasn't looking for a perfect ornament. He simply wanted something that felt familiar. Something that reminded him Duke had been part of his life and had spent his whole lifetime loving him.
That was the moment everything changed for us. We realised we weren't trying to recreate the appearance of a pet. We were trying to preserve the life that only its owner could recognise — a reflection of love, loyalty and years shared together.
From that day onwards, we began to rethink what a pet sculpture should be.
Rather than simply reproducing a photograph, we study every image from every angle, listen to every story, and search for the details that make each pet truly unique.
Perhaps it's the sparkle in their eyes.
Perhaps it's one ear that always drops slightly.
Perhaps it's a distinctive marking.
Or perhaps it's simply that little tuft of fur that never quite sits flat.
To anyone else, these details may seem insignificant.
To the people who loved them, they are everything.
Many pet sculpture studios still rely on traditional methods, producing white resin models that are finished by hand painting.
While this approach can reproduce basic colours, it struggles to capture the subtle texture of fur, feathers and scales. Hand-painted finishes can also differ noticeably from the approved design.
Kithkins takes a completely different approach.
Drawing on years of expertise in digital sculpture, every piece begins as a highly detailed digital model before being produced using world-leading industrial full-colour 3D printing technology.
Each sculpture is built layer by layer from more than 4,000 ultra-fine resin layers, allowing colour and texture to become an integral part of the sculpture itself rather than something applied afterwards.
This enables us to recreate the natural flow of fur, the delicate gradients of feathers, the intricate texture of scales, and even the subtle colour transitions around the nose, eyes and ears with exceptional realism.
Most importantly, the sculpture you receive faithfully reflects the design you approved.
Every carefully refined detail is preserved, ensuring the finished piece remains true to the original vision.
