Virus’s Story, Shared by His Owner
Virus’s dog memorial figurine was created to remember a funny, sweet little dog whose personality and familiar markings had stayed clear in his owner’s memory for many years.
“Virus was a funny and sweet little boy. He loved cuddling up with us and absolutely loved going for car rides. He travelled to many countries with us and was always so happy wherever we went.
He had two chocolate-brown ears and a brown spot on the top of his head, with markings on his back and around his tail that looked a little like the patches on a cow.
He loved sausages and cheese.
We called him Virus because he was contagiously beautiful.”
This story was shared with us by one of our customers from Germany.
And it wasn’t her first experience with Kithkins.
She originally asked us to create a custom pet sculpture of her cat — a beautiful pure-white cat with two different-coloured eyes. He wore a punk-style black leather collar decorated with large studs, giving him a look that was both elegant and wonderfully cool.
When she received her personalised Kithkins cat figurine, she loved it so much that another very important member of her family immediately came to mind — Virus.
She decided to have a dog memorial figurine created for the little dog who had left her many years ago, bringing a small part of him back into her home once again.
Although Virus had been gone for many years, her memories of him were still remarkably clear.
A Little Dog Who Was ‘Contagiously Beautiful’
Virus might sound like an unusual name.
But as soon as his owner told us the story behind it, we loved it.
His family called him Virus because he was “contagiously beautiful”.
With his two large chocolate-brown ears, the little brown spot on the top of his head, and the distinctive cow-like markings across his back and around his tail, it isn’t difficult to understand why.
They may seem like small physical details, but to someone who truly loved him, they were unmistakably Virus — little characteristics that no other dog could ever quite have in the same way.
He loved car journeys and travelled to many different countries with his family.
He loved cuddles, being close to the people he loved, and, of course, sausages and cheese.
Even after all these years, his owner still remembers these little things so clearly.
Because when we truly miss a pet, we don’t only miss what they looked like.
We remember how they sat in the car. How quickly they appeared when they heard a food packet being opened. The feeling of them curled up beside us. And all those ordinary everyday moments that didn’t seem particularly important at the time.
Creating Virus’s Dog Memorial Figurine
For Virus’s owner, this sculpture was never simply about creating a figurine of “a little dog”.
We wanted to preserve Virus as he truly was.
Using photographs provided by his owner, the aim was to recreate the details that made him instantly recognisable — his chocolate-brown ears, the small brown spot on his head, the cow-like markings across his back and around his tail, and the familiar character his family remembered so well.
A dog memorial figurine created from real photographs is not just about recreating a breed or coat colour.
It is about capturing one particular dog.
The little details matter because they are often the same details that bring back the strongest memories.
Some Companionship Ends, but the Memories Remain
The lives of our pets always seem far too short.
They may only share ten or fifteen years of our lives, but to them, those years are almost their entire lifetime.
They move homes with us, travel with us, watch our families change and stay beside us through some of the most important chapters of our lives.
And to them, we may well be the most important person in their entire world.
That is why, when a much-loved pet passes away, it can be so easy to revisit the past again and again.
Sometimes we even ask ourselves:
If I had done just a little more, could they have stayed with me for longer?
But every life has its own length.
We may not be able to stop time, but we can choose how we preserve the memories that matter most.
